The English Hungry Bookworm

Now this is a bit of a plainer post as I don’t have my copies of the books anymore and I do not want to be subject for copyright!

But have you ever had that one book or book series that you can read over and over, you know the words by heart and you could probably read the book aloud to someone else word for word without looking at the pages?

This is me, I have two book series’ that I have done this with, the spines ended up breaking the pages were falling out but it never stopped me reading them!

These books are like home, I first read them at a very low point in my life as a teenager when I was trying to rediscover myself after my first love broke my heart and they became my replacement love and best friends.

Now you all know the movies and probably know the books too, but Twilight was the first series, it took me three days with no sleep to read all four, then I re read them in case I missed anything and from then on whenever anything in life was going sideways or getting too much or I just needed to refocus on myself I picked up the first book and I read until I was finished book four.

The movies never really gave me the same comfort as the books but I still enjoy them.

The second series that became like this to me was Fifty Shades of Grey. When it first hit the shelves I refused to read them as everyone was reading them and I have never really liked to follow a crowd, but eventually I gave in and I loved them. The writing is so engrossing, I get so lost in the story it just brings me comfort to know both characters were never perfect and were both fucked up in their own ways, it was the book that gave me hope for love.

I have tried to watch all three movies but they never lived up to my imagination, even down to the actors who played the characters, they were not who I visioned so I never really got into them. But I did destroy my collection of books reading them, I had to replace them more than once from the pages falling out. By this point though I could buy them second hand for cheap so it wasn’t a major deal.

I do not know if it is just me who has comfort books like these, or if you can re read the same book over and over without getting board, but to me these books became my friends and my escape from reality.
